Giants and Jason Garrett Troll Cowboys by Claiming Cooper Rush off Waivers
By Adam Weinrib
No, this isn't about the New York Giants sending Daniel Jones a "message."
Yes, it is about Jason Garrett bringing in a familiar young player who understands his desired offense to help ease his transition to a new city, potentially adding some spark to the QB room.
Garrett's New York Giants became the secret beneficiaries of the Cowboys' Andy Dalton signing, coming to terms with preseason star Cooper Rush on Tuesday afternoon.
Rush joins Jones and veteran Colt McCoy in an impressive QB cluster in New York, potentially spelling the end of Alex Tanney's time with the team. Though he hasn't had an opportunity to prove himself in the regular season, Rush has shown Dak Prescott-like mobility during his preseason relief appearances, completing 41-of-67 passes for a TD in 2019.
At the very least, he's gained the respect of his ex-teammates, who universally relayed the fact that he can ball after his time in Dallas came to an end.
So, solid troll job by Jason Garrett or potential future backup of the NYG? Either way, certainly worth a mid-May flyer.
