Giants' Pat Shurmur Still Not Considering Benching Eli Manning for Daniel Jones Despite Bad Outing

New York Giants fans might be calling for Daniel Jones to take over starting duties at quarterback, but their requests are falling on deaf ears for now.
Head coach Pat Shurmur isn't ready to move on from veteran star Eli Manning despite the fact that he put up yet another abysmal performance in Week 2. "I don't think that's a conversation right now. Everyone has to play better," he said after Sunday's loss to the Bills.
Though it is only the second week of the season, it's becoming increasingly hard to justify starting Manning under center. Against Buffalo, he completed just 26 of his 45 pass attempts for 250 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Sure, maybe it would be brash to throw Jones into the fire so early -- especially with so few weapons on offense outside of Saquon Barkley -- but he's got a reasonable case to get the nod. He flashed some impressive upside in the preseason, and getting him some low-pressure reps this year might help his development more than sitting behind the perpetually underwhelming Manning.
Manning has done plenty for the Giants franchise. He guided them to two Super Bowl wins and has started 225 of a possible 226 games since the start of the 2005 season. That's not nothing-- but it's time to move on. There's no more justifying starting him any longer. The Giants need to let go of the past and look towards the future.
