On Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants selected the contract of top pitching prospect Shaun Anderson from Triple-A Sacramento.

The 24-year-old is expected to start and make his MLB debut on Wednesday at home at Oracle Park against the Toronto Blue Jays.

San Francisco has yet to make a corresponding move and it still needs to clear a spot on the 40-man roster in order to accommodate Anderson's promotion.

Anderson was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox back in 2016, but was subsequently traded to the Giants in 2017 as part of the Eduardo Nuñez deal.

In seven starts at Triple-A this season, Anderson possesses a 2-1 record with a 4.11 ERA and has 37 strikeouts over 35 innings.

He doesn't have a plus pitch in his repertoire, but he can throw all five of his pitches for strikes, including a sinking fastball that sits in the low-90's but can touch 96 mph.

He shouldn't get too comfortable with the big league life, as the belief is he'll return to Triple-A after this spot start. However if Anderson can impress during his MLB debut, there's a chance the Giants would consider keeping him around, whether it be through a bullpen role or as a back-end starter.
