Giants to Reportedly Interview Patriots Special Teams Coach Joe Judge for Head Coaching Job
By Scott Rogust
The New England Patriots' season ended much more quickly than many expected after the team lost to the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Wild Card Round on Saturday. Now, one of their two coveted coordinators will begin their interviews for potential head coach jobs.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge will meet with the New York Giants for their job opening on Monday.
Judge is an intriguing name in the Giants' coaching search, and he has quite the resume.
Before joining the Patriots, Judge was a special teams assistant under Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide. In his three-year tenure (2009-11), Judge added two BCS National Championships to his credit.
In 2012, Judge made his trek up to Foxborough, serving the same role as he did down in Tuscaloosa. It wasn't until 2015 when Judge was promoted to coordinator of the special teams unit and helped the Pats win three Super Bowls.
The Giants are expanding their head coaching candidates list this time around after their 2018 search ended with the hiring of Pat Shurmur. As everyone knows, his two years on the job yielded a 9-23 record and him getting shown the door on Black Monday.
Judge has the opportunity to impress New York brass the day before perennial favorite Matt Rhule, head coach of the Baylor Bears, interviews with the team on Tuesday.
