Gio Gonzalez Exits Friday's Game With Apparent Injury as Brewers' Rotation Thins
By Ryan Giglio
The Milwaukee Brewers began the year on a roll, looking like sure-fire contenders in the National League even with serious questions regarding their pitching.
In late July, it seems those questions were valid as the team has dipped into third-place in the NL Central, two games out of first and just four over .500.
Earlier this week, the Brewers placed starters Brandon Woodruff and Jhoulys Chacín on the injured list, seriously testing the team's depth. So, the last thing the BrewCrew wanted to see was Gio Gonzalez leave Friday's game against the Cubs with an apparent injury.
Gonzalez was dealing before coming out. In 6.1 innings on Friday, the lefty walked one and struck out nine while allowing two-earned runs on a David Bote home run.
While the Brewers have struggled recently, many still expect them to be on the hunt for pitching ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline on Wednesday. They have been linked to names like New York Mets' Noah Syndergaard, Robbie Ray of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers' Mike Minor.
Milwaukee was already in need to improve its pitching depth before the two injuries earlier this week, but their desperation level may have increased a ton after Gonzalez's injury on Friday.
