Gleyber Torres Joins Eddie Mathews and Andruw Jones With Latest Multi-Homer Game
By Ryan Giglio
Is it time for the Baltimore Orioles to follow Pedro Martinez's lead and start calling Gleyber Torres "daddy"?
While it's doubtful that anyone would ever be as bold as Martinez, the Orioles should really consider doing something different when they face Torres and the New York Yankees.
In the second game of Monday's doubleheader between the Orioles and Yankees, Torres made history when he clobbered two home runs. Monday marked the eighth multi-homer game in his young career, coming after a singular shot in the opening contest as well.
Torres, 22, is the fourth-youngest player in baseball history to record such a feat. Only slugging centerfielder Andruw Jones, as well as Hall of Famers Mel Ott and Eddie Mathews, were younger.
Torres now has 26 home runs on the season, with half of them coming against Baltimore. In fact, Torres' 13 home runs against the Orioles are more than Chris Davis' nine home runs total on the year.
Although the baseballs may be juiced and the Orioles pitching staff is absolutely awful, Torres' feat is still incredible. Too bad he only has two more games against Baltimore this season.
