Gleyber Torres Sets Awesome MLB Record With Saturday's Multi-Homer Game Against Indians
By Sean Facey
In what has been a historic season for Gleyber Torres, the New York Yankees infielder managed to set yet another impressive record.
At the age of 22 years and 247 days, Torres became the youngest player in MLB history to log seven multi-homer games thanks to his two-home run game against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.
It's mind-boggling to think that the Yankees got this guy from the Chicago Cubs for just a half of a season of Aroldis Chapman, who they ended up signing back in the offseason anyway.
It's just the latest feat in Torres' impressive 2019 campaign. After finishing third in AL Rookie of the Year voting last year, he's managed to make major strides. He has more doubles and home runs in nine fewer games, and his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage have all gone up from last season.
And of course, his equally historic dominance of the Baltimore Orioles has been well-documented.
What the Yankees have in Torres is envious. He's a young player who can handle the bat well. He can play both middle infield positions at a decent level. And most importantly, he's under team control until the end of the 2024 season.
Torres is smashing records with ease at a ridiculously young age, and it doesn't seem like he has intentions of stopping any time soon.
