Gordon Hayward Injury Timetable Revealed After Getting Surgery on Broken Hand
By Chris Pyo
Gordon Hayward's had a tough break these last couple of seasons. After breaking his leg during his first game in 2017 with the Boston Celtics and missing the entire season, he's come back with a vengeance.
Unfortunately, in the midst of a hot streak, he managed to break his left hand. After getting surgery, it's been announced that he'll be out for about six weeks.
This is obviously a huge blow to both Hayward and the Celtics, as the Butler product had been experiencing a career resurgence after a tough 2018 season. In eight games, Hayward averaged 18.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists while serving as a veteran presence for the Celtics.
He was expected to lead the team this season alongside newly-acquired Kemba Walker, especially after the loss of Kyrie Irving to the rival Brooklyn Nets.
Without Hayward, Jaylen Brown has been seeing heavy minutes on the court as a starter. Head coach Brad Stevens will have to get creative with his distribution of minutes to guys like Grant Williams, Carsen Edwards and Robert Williams off the bench to fill in for Hayward.
