Gymnast McKayla Maroney Reactivates Instagram and Posts First Story After 2-Year Hiatus

Following her brief reign as the queen of the Internet following an individual silver medal in the 2012 Olympics and being forced to retire from the sport she loved due to injuries, former USA gymnast McKayla Maroney has been almost completely out of the public eye, even going dark on Instagram for over two years.

Maroney has since resurfaced after her extended sabbatical, returning to Twitter in a big way, and bringing the IG account back for good measure.

We're impressed.

Maroney, who won a gold as part of the "Fierce Five" team in 2012, hasn't competed since 2014, as adrenal failure and knee surgery did in her gymnastics career. Fortunately, the 23-year-old Maroney has managed to carve out several careers for herself in the aftermath.

She has stated her intentions to continue the brief acting career she had started after the London Olympics, and is started to make waves as a musician. Overall, it seems she has returned to the daily humdrum of a 23-year-old, albeit with two Olympic medals in tow.

Her gymnastics career might be in the past, but it doesn't look like Maroney has vanished from the public eye just yet.
