Hal Steinbrenner Provides Update on Aaron Judge's Return to the Yankees
By Jerry Trotta
New York Yankees fans have been itching for a concrete date set for Aaron Judge's return ever since he hit the DL back on April 21 with a significant left oblique strain.
Since then, however, we haven't heard much of the 27-year-old slugger. Manager Aaron Boone has recently stated that there was no present timetable for Judge's return to the lineup. Even Carlos Beltran provided some valuable, but distressing insight.
Next up on the update front is Yanks boss Hal Steinbrenner, who hinted that the former Rookie of the Year could be held out until after the All-Star break.
"We want to see them the second half of the year, and more than just the second half of the year" said Steinbrenner. "So we're going to make sure we do it right, we do it carefully and we don't push the process."
In all seriousness, why would Steinbrenner, Boone and Brian Cashman rush their superstar back? Since he went down on April 20, the Bronx Bombers have pulled off a strong 14-6 stretch that currently sits them at the top of the AL East, 0.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Would the New York faithful love to see No. 99 contribute to their relentless hot streak? Absolutely. But, the fact of the matter is that they simply don't need him right now. Steinbrenner and Co. appear ready to give him as much as time as possible to recover and the Bronx should be A-OK with that.
