Hawks and Pistons Reportedly Discussing Trade for Star Center Andre Drummond
By Michael Luciano
The Atlanta Hawks might be mired at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but that won't stop them from chasing one of the best big men in the game.
The Pistons could be looking to unload Blake Griffin and/or Andre Drummond as they begin to rebuild, and Atlanta has already had conversations with Detroit about trading for the star center.
Drummond, who has averaged 15.1 points and 14.5 boards-per-game since the 2012-13 season, is the best rebounder in the game, having led the league in three of the last four years. The former UConn Huskies lottery pick's 15.8 rebounds-per-game this year leads all of basketball.
The Hawks have the draft capital to make a move for Drummond, and young, albeit non-essential, players like Kevin Huerter and Cam Reddish could be on the move to Detroit, who need shooting desperately, in a potential trade.
With Trae Young running the point, DeAndre Hunter on the wing, Drummond down low, and whomever they end up taking high in the 2020 draft, Atlanta will be in possession of one of the most dynamic young cores in the entire NBA that could have the Hawks back in the playoffs soon.
Convincing Drummond not to use his 2020 opt-out will be another conversation entirely, however.
