Heat Acquire Andre Iguodala From Grizzlies
By Sam Dunn
Andre Iguodala didn't make a lot of friends among his Memphis Grizzlies teammates by refusing to play a minute for the organization. Now, ahead of the NBA's trade deadline, he's finally got his wish -- a ticket out of a town in favor of a contender.
As first reported by Shams Charania and eventually confirmed by Woj, Iguodala headed from Memphis to the Miami Heat.
On top of it all, he's even signing an immediate contract extension for two years and $30 million.
The 2015 NBA Finals MVP ended up with the Grizzlies as a casualty of the Warriors needing to free salary cap space to find a replacement for Klay Thompson, who tore his Achilles during the 2019 postseason. It was an unfortunate, anticlimactic exit from the Bay after a run of three titles in four years.
Now, he's joining up with a team that has a chance to shock the basketball world much in the same way the Toronto Raptors did one year ago with defiant star Jimmy Butler leading the way backed by an exciting young core.
At age 36, Iggy doesn't have a whole lot left to offer on a night-to-night basis. But as we saw in these last couple of years at Golden State, when the playoff crunch comes around, he still knows how to turn it on and make it pop on both ends.
The Heat are a serious team in 2020. The rest of the league simply must take notice.
