Heat and Nuggets Emerge as Possible Trade Destinations for Pelicans PG Jrue Holiday
By Michael Luciano
The New Orleans Pelicans are near the bottom of the NBA in their first season without Anthony Davis since 2012, and Jrue Holiday could be on his way out of the Big Easy before the trade deadline.
Holiday, who "cares most" about being on a team ready to win, per sources, could be targeted by top-tier teams in trade talks, with the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat ready to pounce.
Holiday, currently in his seventh season as a Pelican, is averaging 19.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. While those are excellent numbers, his scoring and assists have decreased as compared to last year.
Denver has Jamal Murray currently starting and thriving as the point guard. However, either Holiday or Murray sliding over to a shooting guard position that they have both shown to be comfortable in over the course of their careers could certainly be one way Mike Malone could get them both on the floor.
Miami also doesn't seem like a perfect fit, given how well rookie Kendrick Nunn has performed as the starter and how Goran Dragic continues to star with the second unit, but a core of Holiday, Bam Adebayo, and Jimmy Butler would certainly make them a threat to come out of the East.
New Orleans is sitting around twiddling their thumbs and waiting for Zion Williamson to finally suit up in what has become a lost season. David Griffin has shown he knows how to maximize his return when trading a star player, and Holiday could be shipped out of town once he gets the right offer.
