Henry Cejudo is a Lunatic for Wanting to Make History by Fighting Twice in One Night
By Evan Wolff
Fighting multiple times in one night isn't entirely unheard of. Often times in the old Pride FC organization in Japan, fighters would have massive tournaments at any weight, and competitors would go through multiple bouts in a day. Kazuki Sakuraba famously beat Royce Grace after a 90-minute fight, and then lost later in the night after a 20-minute fight back in 2000.
Those marathon fights, and multiple bouts in one day, are a thing of the past inside the UFC. With fighters hyper-specialized to take on one opponent, and damage from every fight carefully analyzed thanks to improved technology and highly-trained medical professionals, there's no need for this kind of barbarism. That is why Henry Cejudo is insane to even suggest the notion that he wants to fight twice on the same fight night.
Cejudo says he wants to emulate Royce Gracie, who fought three times in the same night at UFC 1. However, there are so many things that Cejudo would need to check off to make Dana White even think about it.
First, he would need to make weight for Flyweight, immediately giving his opponent Jose Aldo a 10 pound advantage from the beginning. Then he would need to defeat Aldo, without taking so much damage that a doctor rules he can't fight shortly thereafter. Finally, Cejudo would need to train for two bouts against fighters with vastly different skill sets, and come up with a solution to defeat both.
Even if Aldo is coming off a loss in his last two fights, he is still an extremely dangerous opponent. It's most likely that Cejudo is saying this as another way to keep his name in the papers, but he would be wise to not show too much disrespect to the legend that is Jose Aldo.
