Highest-Paid QBs in NFL After Dak Prescott Franchise Tag
By Tyler Kemp
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has been in a seesaw battle with owner Jerry Jones and the rest of Dallas’ front office for a contract extension. With no progress on a new deal, the exclusive franchise tender was the only avenue both sides could immediately take in order to table discussions on a long-term agreement.
With Prescott set to make $31.4 million this upcoming season, he has now cracked the top eight list of highest paid quarterbacks in the league. In terms of yearly value, here is the rest of the list going into 2020.

Prescott sits just above Matt Ryan and right below NFC East rival Carson Wentz in terms of pay for next year. With Russell Wilson sitting at $35 million, Seattle’s signal caller is set to make the most money out of all QBs in the NFL. Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins make up the rest of the list from 2-through-5 between Wilson and Wentz.
With Prescott and Jones having another year to negotiate in Dallas, the pressure is on for both sides to come to an agreement before July 15. If they do not, then quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes in KC, Deshaun Watson in Houston and Lamar Jackson in Baltimore are the next top-flight QBs that could reset the market for the position.
The numbers are working in Prescott’s favor. If he can compound his best statistical season in his young career from 2019 with another great showing and a playoff appearance in 2020, Prescott could be in line to move higher up the list of highest paid QBs.
