The Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal has largely dropped out of the headlines, and given the coronavirus pandemic, that's understandable.

We hate to say it, but the bombshell cheating operation won't even be much of a focal point even when the MLB season gets underway at long last, and the haters have every right to be incensed if and when that's the case. For now, however, we can take solace in the fact that Astros scout David Brito has put his tainted 2017 World Series ring up for auction. To our knowledge, this is the first one to be sold.

To think that this is merely the first 2017 World Series ring to hit the market is shocking. We obviously don't expect Astros players to offer up their own championship mementos, but folks that weren't directly associated with the scandal shouldn't think twice about separating themselves from the wrongdoing.

Brito has set a fabulous precedent for those staff members who are now unfairly associated with so many bad acts.

As for Twitter, well, it continues to hold its prominent position as the headquarters for top-tier humor regarding the cheating regimen.

In many ways, the Astros did "steal" the 2017 World Series away from the Los Angeles Dodgers. You could say the same about depriving the Red Sox and Yankees of a shot at competing for a championship in the previous two rounds of the postseason.

All told, it's about time one of these rings was put up for auction. Considering how they were obtained, it ought to be considered bad luck to have one of these things in your possession.
