Here's How the Broncos Can Trade up to Land a Star Offensive Lineman and Still Take Justin Jefferson in NFL Draft

The Denver Broncos need some work, but if John Elway can strategize to hit two home runs in the 2020 NFL Draft, this team will be well on its way to contention.

With the No. 15 overall pick, the Broncos are in a tough spot. They need a surefire offensive line prospect, but they're too far away from such a selection. On the other hand, LSU wide receiver Justin Jackson seemingly fits perfectly in the team's offense, but taking him at their current spot would be considered a reach.

So what about two trade-up scenarios for Denver to fill both of their needs with two studs?

Elway has 10 picks in the upcoming draft, meaning he can make some big moves. They have Nos. 15, 46, 77, 83 and 95. If they're going to trade up, say, with the New York Jets or Jacksonville Jaguars, the Broncos would almost certainly have to surrender No. 46 in that deal in addition to swapping 15 with either No. 9 or No. 11 (right now, it doesn't seem as if the Browns are willing to move from their current 10 spot).

If Elway can convince either of those teams with that deal, they can get their hands on a star offensive lineman such as Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills Jr. or Andrew Thomas. That would settle their need and likely plug in an NFL-ready talent for Week 1. Drew Lock is protected. Great.

Now, for Jefferson, who is projected to land with the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 21. It's possible the Eagles trade up and grab a higher rated receiving prospect, but if they don't, the Broncos could have an opportunity here to make a deal with the Dolphins or Jaguars (again), though Jacksonville probably won't make such a deal twice, so don't count on it if they do that.

Perhaps the Broncos can package a combination of picks 77, 83 and 95 in addition to a second- or third-rounder in the 2021 draft to sweeten the deal. Teams like the Jaguars, Dolphins and Vikings have two first-round picks, and with Jacksonville and Miami rebuilding, they could be interested in more future assets. Securing one of those three selections could land the Broncos Jefferson, especially if the Eagles trade up and the Broncos go after Minnesota's No. 22 pick.

It won't be easy, but those are the likely scenarios if the Broncos are trying to hit a home run in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
