Howie Roseman Admits the Eagles Need to 'Infuse' the Roster With More Youth
By Scott Rogust
The Philadelphia Eagles put up a valiant effort in the face of adversity, but it just wasn't enough. Despite winning the NFC East, the Eagles were eliminated by the Seattle Seahawks in the Wildcard Round.
Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman traded for numerous veteran players this past offseason to make one more Super Bowl run, but it was all for naught.
Now, Roseman realizes the team needs to get younger quickly, and relayed the message to the media during the team's end of season press conference on Wednesday.
“Going forward, we need to infuse youth in this team,” Roseman said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia. “We think we’re going to have 10 draft picks in the draft. We’re excited about that.”
When looking at the roster, Philadelphia boasted so many experienced players -- DeSean Jackson, Jordan Howard, Alshon Jeffery, just to name a few. All three went down due to injury, and left the Eagles grasping at straws via the practice squad.
While that helped the Eagles win a weak division, they were no match against the Seahawks this past weekend.
Contending teams are built through the NFL Draft, and the Eagles, seeing their championship window closing, bought in and traded away draft capital for Jackson and Howard last offseason.
The end result saw the Eagles own the third-oldest roster in the league, behind the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, and suffer an unprecedented amount of injuries at the worst possible time, which ultimately did them in.
Roseman has opened his eyes, and looks forward to bringing in some youth with his ten picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.
