It's Time for Somebody to Convince Disgraced Browns Head Coach Hue Jackson to Shut Up
By Emily Adams
After Hue Jackson's disastrous tenure with the Cleveland Browns, we thought we'd seen the last of him in the headlines, but Jackson clearly had other ideas this week when he tried to claim he wanted to sign Colin Kaepernick back in 2017 only to be overruled by management.
So he said, anyway.
Hindsight is 20/20, but Jackson is trying to rewrite the past. He said in a radio interview that he tried to get Kap for the Browns, but that it ultimately "wasn't his decision." That's interesting to hear from him now, since in 2017 he said that the Browns hadn't discussed signing the former 49ers QB. What's more believable is that this is a desperate attempt by Jackson to stay relevant in the NFL.
It would have been cool to see Jackson, one of the few black coaches in the league at the time, sign Kaepernick and support his peaceful protest of the national anthem, but that didn't happen. Not only is he being opportunistic, he also used his air time to take a dig against Browns QB Baker Mayfield.
Jackson and Mayfield have a history of beef between them that started after Jackson was fired and took a job at the Cincinnati Bengals. In the same interview, Jackson emphasized that he never has a problem with Mayfield as a player, implying that he has plenty of problems with him as a human being.
Jackson just needs to stop. He was a dreadful coach at Cleveland, and he needs to stop trying to insert himself into whatever will give him the most media attention.
