Hunter Pence Suffers Potential Setback in Minor League Rehab Game
By Brendan Azoff
The Texas Rangers got some bad news on Tuesday as their All-Star Hunter Pence felt tightness in his hamstring during his final plate appearance Monday night in his rehab stint with the Frisco Roughriders.
The right fielder qualified for the All-Star game as the starting designated hitter for the American League after posting a .294 average with 15 homers and 48 RBIs before going done with a hamstring injury.
At 36 years old, Pence has enjoyed a rejuvenation of sorts, but this setback may cost him significant time, including a potential absence at the All-Star game. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday night, where the extent of his injury will be made clear.
The Rangers currently sit in the second Wild Card position with a record of 46-38, clinging to a half-game lead over the Indians and Athletics. If Pence is out of the lineup for a significant amount of time, the Rangers upstart season could have a disappointing finish.
