Ichiro is All of Us Right Now With the Baseball Season Currently Suspended
If you think you're missing baseball right now, imagine what Seattle Mariners legend and future Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki is going through. The man lives and breathes baseball on both sides of the Pacific Ocean, and his passion for the game hasn't lessened one bit despite being 46 and retired.
With the MLB season suspended due to COVID-19 concerns, and no fans back home in Japan's NPB, you better believe good ol' No. 51 is hurting right now with the rest of us -- and reminded everyone never to forget how much the game means, not even for a minute.
The old saying goes you don't appreciate something until it's gone, and that's exactly what Ichiro is feeling right now about baseball.
"People expect to have baseball in the United States. But we suddenly lost something we have always taken for granted," he said via the Kyodo News.
He's absolutely right. Before the coronavirus pandemic swept our nation, MLB fans across the country were getting ready for the season to get going. Instead, Spring Training came to a halt and teams have been sent home from their training facilities. Opening Day won't be coming soon. The grills have been put back in the garage, and the jerseys will spend more time in the back of the closet.
While we all continue to be sad without baseball, just know Ichiro's pain is even greater. And when play does resume, you better believe he'll be happier than most to see dingers being hit once again.
