If Prince Amukamara Actually Thinks Mitchell Trubisky is a Team Leader the Bears Are in Trouble
By Mark Powell
Mitchell Trubisky, team leader?
We didn't say it, Prince Amukamara did. The Bears DB boldly stated that he stands with Trubisky despite the frustrations of the fanbase, and the whispers Chicago might look elsewhere for their starting QB come the end of the season if the North Carolina product doesn't turn things around.
Amukamara was saying all the right things during media availability on Tuesday. We don't blame him, but Bears fans should hope this isn't the case.
"One hundred percent Mitch is our captain, Mitch is our leader," Amukamara said in his appearance on ESPN 1000 Chicago. "I mean, for whatever reason, it might seem like (the offense is) coming off a slow start or whatever, but we have full faith in the offense."
There is a 0 percent chance Amukamara and the Bears defense has any faith in the player leading their struggles on the opposite side of the ball. Frankly, they'd be insane to think so.
The Bears leaders have no choice but to rally around Trubisky right now. Chicago has so much invested in him, including the unfortunate history of being the team to trade up to take Trubisky over the likes of Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes. That's not easy to live with.
If the Bears really are this reliant on their young QB, then there's a deeper culture issue than we can imagine. When Chicago does move on, they'll need someone else to rally around. The Bears must be ready for such a change given Trubisky's lackluster play.
