Impressive Stat Shows Chiefs' Roster Continuity on Pace to Match Patriots Dynasty
By Michael Luciano
Andy Reid led the Kansas City Chiefs to the franchise's first Super Bowl win in 50 years when they took down the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. Reid's team wasn't a bunch of grizzled veterans trying to put it all together for one shot at a title, either. These are a bunch of young guys ready to dominate for the next decade in Kansas City.
Nothing better exemplifies how prepared the Chiefs are to own the 2020s than this stat that puts them in the same category as the early 2000s New England Patriots. If the Chiefs resign cornerback Bashaud Breeland, they will have retained all the players who played at least 57 percent of their snaps in 2019, which only New England in 2001 had done previously.
What made the New England dynasty so great, apart from Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, was the fact that they managed to retain a lot of their key coaches and players while finding equal or better replacements for the ones that did leave.
Kansas City not losing any of their coordinators from the 2019 season, all the while retaining the likes of Breeland and Chris Jones, has them set up nicely for a run in 2020. With Patrick Mahomes calling the shots and Reid on the sidelines, Kansas City should be the favorites to take home another Lombardi in 2020.
The Chiefs aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and it looks like the AFC will run through Baltimore or Kansas City for the next decade.
