Incredible Stat Highlights Marlins' Huge Offensive Turnaround
By Charles Nason
Although they are still sitting at a measly 22-36 record, the Miami Marlins have recently shown a huge offensive turnaround. In their past three games, the Marlins have racked up 34 runs.
However by looking at their run totals over a longer period, the turnaround becomes more apparent.
The Marlins have been exploding offensively over the past half month. While this stat has come from some blowout performances like their 16-0 win over the Brewers, the Marlins have consistently put up runs in every game. In that 17-game span, Miami has only been shutout one time.
A quick glance at the Marlins stats show that there is no real standout star that is responsible for their offensive breakout.
With guys like Jorge Alfaro, Starlin Castro, and Brian Anderson leading the way for Miami, they are still lacking a star to take them to the next level. However, their elevated offense has gotten them in the win column more frequently.
The remainder of the month for the Marlins consists of mainly NL East opponents including the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Nationals. If they can keep up their offensive domination, the Marlins could potentially steal a few games from division opponents and possibly even move up in the NL East standings.
In any scenario, the Marlins have become one of the MLB's most surprising offensive teams as of late. Swinging their bats the way they have, the Marlins can shift what seemed like a disastrous rebuilding year into the start of a hopeful turnaround.
