Indians' Carlos Carrasco Named AL Comeback Player of the Year
The Cleveland Indians don't just have a great pitcher in Carlos Carrasco. They have a great human being.
Carrasco missed part of the 2019 season after being diagnosed with leukemia, but he did the unthinkable. Not only did he return later in the year, but he played well and helped his team fight for a playoff spot.
Nobody expected him to come back. Many were ready to rule him out for the year as he underwent treatment and took time off to recover.
Instead, the pitcher affectionately known as "Cookie" never stopped working and returned as a member of the bullpen late in the year. Terry Francona put him in high-leverage situations right away and Carrasco never shied away from the moment.
Indians fans know how involved Carrasco is off the field and this award is just another indication of how well-rounded he has been during his time in Cleveland. The man had cancer and continued to think about others the whole time.
He's set to enter 2020 as a key member of the starting rotation once again. A few trades could even have Carrasco as the top member of an already dominant rotation.
And this is after he battled leukemia less than a full year ago. He truly is a special individual.
