Indians Home Opener Tickets Aren't Selling Well at All
By Brady Williams
Just four years after an historic run in the playoffs and a heartbreaking loss in the World Series, Cleveland Indians fans seem to have taken their foot off of the gas pedal. Progressive Field likely won't be a packed house for the team's 2020 home opener, according to Cleveland Scene.
Sales opened on Monday, and the tickets are still available. Often times, late tickets will be bought up by third party sites like StubHub. However, as of Friday afternoon, the Indians' official website still has seats available.
Many are speculating that weather could be a factor in the dipping sales, as March in Northern Ohio is known to be brisk. Of course, the weather was just as intense and depressing during the 27 consecutive sellouts, so that's hardly a genuine excuse -- devotees simply may have lost some motivation. Beyond that, the opener is on a Tuesday, forcing Tribe fans to reconcile their work schedules with spending money to support an ownership group that doesn't seem entirely dedicated to bringing them the best possible brand of baseball.
Whatever, the reason may be, the previous 27 sellouts happened for a reason. Ohioans love the Tribe and Major League Baseball. By Mar. 26th, those seats will likely be filled. After all, how many chances left do you have to appreciate Francisco Lindor?
