Indians Option Jake Bauers and Greg Allen to Triple-A After Trade Deadline Shuffle
By Parker White
The Cleveland Indians shocked the baseball world when they made a three-team trade with the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres, sending starter Trevor Bauer out of town and bringing aboard outfielders Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes.
To make room for these additions on the active roster, the Indians have optioned first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers and outfielder Greg Allen to Triple-A Columbus.
Cleveland had high hopes for Bauers when they acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays, but in 100 games in his first season with the Indians he's slashing just .233/.308/.379 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI.
Allen has been up and down with the big league club for the last three seasons, and in just 45 games this year he's slashing .230/.296/.381 with two home runs and 17 RBI.
The Indians' outfield as a whole has been extremely disappointing in 2019, which is why they dealt one of the top starters in the American League to add two power-hitting outfielders as they head down the stretch and compete for an AL Central title.
