Indians Reportedly Acquire RHP Hunter Wood From Rays Ahead of Trade Deadline
By Karl Rasmussen
Strap yourselves in folks, it's trade season.
After the first domino fell with Marcus Stroman joining the Mets, another transaction has occurred. The Indians have moved to acquire some more pitching depth, adding Hunter Wood from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Wood has made 19 appearances this season, recording a 2.48 ERA with 24 strikeouts across 29 innings of work. He's maintained an efficient 1.13 WHIP and has only issued 7 walks on the year.
He'll help further beef up an Indians' bullpen that has been ultra-effective in 2019, leading the pro circuit with a 3.25 ERA.
Marc Topkin reports the deal will send Christian Arroyo and Wood to Cleveland in exchange for minor league outfielder Ruben Cardenas, as well as international signing money.
The move will also clear a roster spot for the recently-acquired utility man Eric Sogard, who was added via a trade with the Blue Jays on Saturday.
We'll see if more moves are coming, as Cleveland finds themselves right back in the AL Central race, shaking off the rust from their slow start.
