Indians Should Trade Trevor Bauer as Soon as Possible After Incredible Outing Against Tigers
By Seth Carlson
The Cleveland Indians are expected to be busy leading up to the trade deadline, and one name fans could get ready to see leave town is Trevor Bauer.
The hard-throwing righty tossed a complete game shutout against the Detroit Tigers Sunday, his first ever. In the start, he racked up eight strikeouts and allowed just four hits, as the Indians trounced Detroit 8-0 and left Comerica Park with a series sweep.
Bauer is now 4-6 with a 3.71 ERA, the lowest it has been all season. This means his trade value is as good as ever. Will Cleveland be ready to make a move?
The Indians (37-33) currently sit 10 games back of the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. This was supposed to be another title-contending year for the club, but that simply hasn't been the case. Cleveland is four games over .500, but much more was expected of them.
They may still be in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, but there are a multitude of teams ahead of the Tribe in the pecking order. This includes Tampa Bay, Texas and Boston, while of course the Yankees, Astros and Twins are atop their respective divisions. In other words, postseason play isn't looking that easy to attain for Cleveland.
Bauer is exactly the type of pitcher that can net the Tribe a decent sized return, given his years of control and dominant stuff, which was on display Sunday. The Indians may not have a chance at the division this year, but trading Bauer while his value is at its highest would be a smart move, no question.
These next couple of weeks will either make or break Cleveland's mindset for the rest of the summer. If they keep dropping in the standings, the team will need to be aggressive in making moves. But right now, shipping Bauer seems like the most logical deal.
