The Texans Longhorns' already thin running back depth was just dealt a significant blow as true freshman Jordan Whittington has, according to head coach Tom Herman, suffered a torn adductor muscle in his groin.

That's an ailment normally associated with a sports hernia injury and Whittington will fly to Philadelphia to have surgery to repair the muscle. Herman expects the young tailback to return in a little over a month.

While there's no doubting that Whittington's injury is a compelling storyline, the mind-blowing part of the narrative is the fact that the Longhorns No. 3 quarterback, dual-threat prospect Roschon Johnson, will be forced to assume the role of second-string RB duties behind Keaontay Ingram.

But, that wasn't the only stunning roster shake-up that Herman was forced to make over the weekend. True freshman David Gbenda, who was regarded as a four-star linebacker recruit in the 2019 class, took snaps at RB during Sunday's practice.

Unreal.

The Longhorns can only hope that they suffer no more injuries on the running back front. If they do, Herman will be compelled to make some unappealing alterations to his depth chart.
