It Appears the Giants Not Paying Landon Collins Was the Best Move Ever

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman received plenty of flak for his decisions this offseason. One that sticks out is Gettleman's unwilligness to make an offer for impending free agent safety Landon Collins, and simply allowing him to walk and sign a massive contract with the rival Washington Redskins.

But it appears Gettleman's decision has proven to be wise three weeks into the season, as Collins has yet to record a single significant statistic so far.

That's right, three games into his six-year, $84 million contract, Collins has yet to record a sack, interception, forced fumble or pass defensed.

While he's recorded 27 tackles thus far, Collins has struggled to bring down the ball carrier, as best evidenced by him whiffing an attempted tackle on Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen this past Monday. Not to mention, he took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for slamming Cohen to the turf after getting put on skates.

Collins was brought to Washington to help improve the defense, and that hasn't been the case at all, considering he's the highest-paid safety in league history. The Redskins rank 26th in total defense (402.7 yards per game) while allowing the second-most passing touchdowns in the league (9).

His replacement, Jabrill Peppers, hasn't impressed with the Giants thus far, but he comes at a much cheaper price.

Landon Collins will continue to try and prove that the New York Giants were wrong for letting him go, as he takes on his former team at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
