It Appears the Patriots and Bill Belichick Have No Idea How to Draft Defensive Backs
By Parker White

Even the smartest among us have their weak spots.
Bill Belichick will arguably go down as the greatest football coach ever, and his forte is on the defensive side of the football. However, when it comes to eyeing talent in the draft at the defensive back position, Belichick's record is brutal.
With Duke Dawson getting traded to the Denver Broncos, here's a list of the first and second round defensive backs selected by Bill Belichick.

Outside of Devin McCourty in 2010 and Patrick Chung in 2009 (who left, came back, and is now dealing with cocaine possession charges), the rest of these guys can't even make a rotation for someone's defensive backfield.
To highlight their ineptitude of drafting DBs, the Patriots traded cornerback Duke Dawson to the Denver Broncos on Friday, just one year after selecting him the second round of the draft out of Florida.
Dawson didn't do anything for New England in his rookie season, but to make matters worse, the Patriots gave up a second- and fourth-round pick to trade up for him.
To underscore how badly the #Patriots blew another 2nd round pick on a DB by getting rid of Duke Dawson only 1 year after he was traded.

The #Patriots gave up a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick in the 2018 Draft to move up draft Dawson. He played 0 snaps as a rookie.
But it apparently doesn't matter! This team still has McCourty and acquired Stephon Gilmore a few years ago. Those two led a unit that held the Rams to just three points in the Super Bowl.
Nothing ever doesn't work out in the Patriots' favor.
