It's a Little Weird Dellin Betances Didn't Thank Yankees in His Goodbye Post
By Ian Anderson
New York Mets fans received an early Christmas gift when reliever Dellin Betances signed with them on Christmas Eve.
Betances decided to make an Instagram post celebrating the signing, but seemingly forgot to thank the New York Yankees for his time there, which seems...a bit odd.
His entire career and multiple All-Star appearances became, "Made it to the Big Leagues in the Bronx"? We're sure something else is coming, but...eh...
In this post, Betances thanks everyone on the Mets for getting him into the organization, but nobody on the Yankees. No players, coaches, or front office workers. Not a soul who rocked pinstripes..
Betances was drafted by the Yankees in 2006 and has spent his entire career in the Bronx. So, maybe we're being petty, but we expected some specific acknowledgment.
One of the reasons that this could be the case would be a bad exit.
While Betances was a free agent, many thought he'd find his way back to the Yankees on a prove-it deal, despite only one appearance last season due to injury.
Things have been at least a bit frosty between the two parties since before the 2017 season, when Yankees President Randy Levine attacked Betances in an arbitration hearing, diminishing his worth and seemingly blaming him for low ticket sales. Perhaps that factored into his decision? Or perhaps the Yankees just...didn't show much interest in an over-30 reliever coming off shoulder and achilles issues?
For what it's worth, the Yankees were quick to thank Betances for his service.
The Yankees host the Mets on June 7 and 8 next season, and that set could very well include the Dellin Betances revenge game.
