Ja Morant Taking Aim at Rockets and James Harden Was a Rookie Mistake
By Jack Murphy
Ja Morant has been putting on a show in his rookie season with the Memphis Grizzlies and has already emerged as one of the young stars in today's NBA. The 20-year-old point guard has not made too many mistakes, but as a rookie he is a bound to make a few. Trash talking one of the best players in the game right now in James Harden wasn't the best decision.
On Jan. 14, the Grizzlies won a thriller against the Houston Rockets, and Morant had some words for the 2018 NBA MVP.
Morant did not face off against the Rockets at full strength however, as Russell Westbrook was inactive for their match-up. On Wednesday, Westbrook was part of the starting five, and paired with Harden gave Morant a little dose of reality.
Morant is young kid who is putting up gaudy numbers this season and is performing at an exceptional level. However, he is not on the level that Westbrook and Harden are just yet. Houston's dynamic duo humbled the Murray State product with their dominating performance, which could actually help Morant in the long run.
Ja is in line to win Rookie of the Year and perhaps make the playoffs in his first professional season, both of which are overwhelming accomplishments many wouldn't have predicted for him so early on. Nonetheless, Harden and Westbrook's dominance on Wednesday is just another lesson in experience trumping youth.
