Jacob deGrom has been the gold standard for starting pitchers for the past couple of seasons, and he's been a model of consistency for the New York Mets ever since they called him up in 2014. But even a pitcher with his illustrious pedigree is subject to the occasional battle with nerves. The superstar ace, rather adorably, admitted that he was just a little bit nervous ahead of his first spring training start.

"Any time I take the mound, I get nervous," he said with a sheepish smile. "I was nervous in my sim game."

It is a bit surprising that deGrom admitted to dealing with anxiety on the hill, especially considering how poised he seems when pitching and how dominant he's been. It just goes to show that winning back-to-back Cy Young awards is no easy feat, and that he's locked in ahead of every single outing.

Despite the superhuman resume deGrom has amassed over his career in the bigs, the 30-year-old is still a mortal man, and he gets nervous just like the rest of us -- even ahead of a Spring Training game.
