Jadeveon Clowney Reportedly Wanting to Play for the Jets is Borderline Mental
Jadeveon Clowney is one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL, but he remains unsigned this offseason in free agency. He initially demanded around $20 million annually and had no takers. His asking price has gone down a few million, but it's still unknown if his former Seattle Seahawks have fully moved on from him as May approaches.
Clowney does want big money, and has also said he wants to play for a winning team. That is why some reported interest in joining a team like the New York Jets stands out as a bit crazy.
Playing in "a big market" is one thing, but joining a Jets team that hasn't been to the playoffs since the 2010 season would be a mind-boggling move. Clowney has a desire to compete for a Super Bowl, after all.
Yes, Jadeveon Clowney would make the Jets a better team, but this kind of decision would go against everything he has said up to this point. He would have to have a ton of faith in Adam Gase and Sam Darnold to commit to a multi-year deal on a team that has been a mess for an entire decade.
