This Jaguars-Redskins Trade for Leonard Fournette Could Actually Work

After trading away the likes of AJ Bouye and Calais Campbell this offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced loudly and proudly that they are kicking off a major rebuild.

That rebuild could see them part ways with former No. 4 overall pick Leonard Fournette, who is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season after the team declined to pick up his fifth-year option.

Ron Rivera and the Washington Redskins, currently using the aging legend Adrian Peterson along with a pair of perpetually injured college stars in Derrius Guice and Bryce Love, should look into trading for Fournette.

A third-round pick might sound a little rich from Washington's perspective, especially when they are a rebuilding team without the benefit of a second-round pick this year, but that selection was likely going to be used on a new weapon for Haskins anyway. Why not grab a guy with two 1,000-yard seasons that only has a cap hit of $8.6 million? Washington's $27 million in cap space could allow them to take on his contract. And who knows, if he likes it in DC he might be willing to re-sign!

Giving up one of their two fourth-round picks and a late-round pick instead of No. 66 overall could also be enough to convince Jacksonville to part ways with the former LSU star.

One of the hallmarks of Rivera's Carolina Panthers teams was their ability to run the football, producing excellent years out of running backs like DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. With Fournette in the backfield behind Haskins, Washington could have one of the most improved offensive units in the league in 2020.
