The Jaguars Are Huffing Paint if They Think Their Trade Demands for Yannick Ngakoue Are Reasonable
By Michael Luciano
If you're wondering why the Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to part ways with pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue, it's because ironheaded GM Dave Caldwell is refusing to accept anything less than a king's ransom for the 25-year-old.
According to reports, Caldwell is seeking a "first-round pick and more" in any potential Ngakoue trade.
Let me get this straight, Caldwell. You have no leverage after Ngakoue confirmed he will not play for you if he doesn't get traded. Even after that, you still want to be compensated like Ngakoue is a top-tier edge rusher? The amount of players worth a first-round-pick-plus-something-extra are few and far between (even Jadeveon Clowney didn't cost that much!), and Caldwell is somehow expecting some team will fork that over for a player with a very public desire not to play in Jacksonville.
Just rip the band-aid off and get a deal done. The longer Ngakoue is a Jaguar, the worse it becomes for all parties involved, and the less leverage you'll ultimately have.
The Jaguars are already in a state of flux as they undergo a big transition and partial rebuild. They don't need any more stress or uncertainty added to the mix.
