Jake Fromm Clearly Should Have Went Back to Georgia After Unexpected NFL Draft Slide

Jake Fromm was initially committed to play for Nick Saban at Alabama. When Kirby Smart left Tuscaloosa to become the head coach at Georgia, Fromm went with him to Athens. After the Bulldogs' talented sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason suffered a sprained knee in the 2017 season opener against Appalachian State, Fromm, a true freshman, got his opportunity to start and shined. He established himself as the quarterback of the future for the Bulldogs, which resulted in Eason transferring to Washington.

Despite having an outstanding career in Athens, Fromm's slide down NFL Draft boards shows one more year at Georgia probably would have been the smart move, especially after seeing seven quarterbacks taken before him, including the aforementioned Eason.

Another year to fine tune his mechanics, footwork, and decision making -- in hindsight -- clearly would have paid off considering Fromm has largely regressed since taking UGA to the National Championship game a few years ago.

Fromm's passing yards (never eclipsed 2,900 yards) and touchdowns (threw 24 his freshman year, 30 his sophomore year and 24 his junior year) largely remained static and his arm strength was clearly a bit of an issue in 2019.

It's not all on Fromm though. This year's draft featured an unusually small number of teams looking for a starting quarterback, coupled with the fact that the 2020 class is pretty stacked at that position. Additionally, with Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, and Andy Dalton all looking for jobs, the need to draft quarterbacks wasn't exactly a priority for many.

While rival SEC fans took the opportunity to clown Fromm's draft slide, Georgia fans took to Twitter to remind everyone that the GOAT was drafted 199th overall, proving no matter how far you fall, there's always hope.
