Jake Fromm NFL Draft Predictions After Recent Free Agency QB Carousel
By Michael Luciano
The seemingly never-ending quarterback shuffle that is once again in full swing this offseason might have solved some teams' needs at the most important position on the field, but it's created just as many holes. The middle rounds of the 2020 NFL draft could be the ideal place for teams uncertain about their quarterback room to add either an insurance policy or a potential spot starter. Given his accuracy, poise and decision-making, Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm would be a perfect Day 2 addition for any of these three teams.
3. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts quarterback room currently consists of Jacoby Brissett and the newly-signed Philip Rivers. The team had such little confidence in the former that they went out and brought in a $25 million per year passer, while the latter is 38 years old and has the athletic ability of a tree. Fromm in the third round provides a safe, yet youthful backup option that could seize the starting role from Rivers should he falter or learn from the sagely veteran for a year or two.
2. Carolina Panthers
Look no further than the Nick Foles ordeal in Jacksonville to figure out why Carolina should still consider drafting a quarterback this year. After Kyle Allen and Will Grier proved in pretty definitive fashion they are not starters in this league and are nothing more than average backups, Carolina needs someone who can step in and run the show should Teddy Bridgewater get injured or underperform. Fromm's accuracy will make him perfect for Brady's offense should Bridgewater be forced out of action.
1. New England Patriots
The Patriots' quarterback room is led by Jarrett Stidham and Cody Kessler. If you are confident in New England winning with that bunch, you're either Jarrett Stidham's mom or totally delusional. Josh McDaniels' offense requires a quarterback to make quick, decisive reads and get the ball out on time accurately. While Fromm isn't super athletic, nor does he possess a tremendously strong arm, he can check both boxes a McDaniels QB needs to check, which could lead to Belichick taking a gamble on the former Bulldog.
