Jalen Hurts Announces Number With Eagles and it's Clear He'll Have a Major Role in Philly
By Michael Luciano
The Philadelphia Eagles stunned the world when they picked Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft despite the presence of Carson Wentz, but Hurts and the Philly faithful have really seemed to hit it off lately, as his jersey is the tenth highest-selling over the last few weeks.
Hurts got fans even more hyped up when he finally announced what number he will be wearing in the pros. Hurts will return to No. 2, which he wore during his time under Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa.
Yeah, they don't just let irrelevant rookie backups make a big show of choosing their collegiate digits. Hurts wore No. 2 at Alabama, where he started for two seasons and got his team to two national championships, winning one, before switching to No. 1 when he was at Oklahoma.
Hurts figures to see the field in some capacity next season, even if Wentz will be the starting quarterback. GM Howie Roseman has frequently mentioned using Hurts like how the New Orleans Saints use Taysom Hill, even though Hurts is a quarterback.
If we know ANYTHING about Hurts, however, it's that if he has the ball in his hands, he has the intuition and athleticism to reel off some big plays.
It remains to be seen how Hurts will actually help this team in the immediate future given Wentz's status as the franchise guy, but you can bet that he is going to make some plays on the field.
