Jamal Adams Calls Out Jets Over Lack of Contract Extension Talks
By Scott Rogust
It appeared that the heat between the New York Jets and safety Jamal Adams had finally started to subside in regards the latter's desire for a new contract. However, things became contentious once again on Friday.
Reports earlier that day indicated that the Cleveland Browns and defensive end Myles Garrett began talking about a potential mega contract extension that could get finalized this summer. Adams replied to B/R Gridiron's Instagram post marking the news by congratulating his fellow 2017 draftee before saying that he's yet to receive a contract offer from the Jets.
That's not good to hear if you're a fan of Gang Green.
Adams is entering the fourth season of his rookie deal, but is under contract until the end of the 2021 season after the team exercised his fifth-year option. The safety is looking to cash in right now, considering NFL players have a limited shelf life in their careers and he's already a star. However, the Jets are content on waiting until the final year of his contract, after which they could potentially use the franchise tag twice if negotiations fall through.
During last season's trade deadline, the Jets reportedly received trade calls from other teams, which hurt Adams. This offseason, reports indicated that if Adams were to be traded, he'd want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
Until Adams is given what he wants, he'll continue to speak out. The Jets would be wise to engage in good faith, as his price tag (and disgruntlement) will only increase with the passing of time.
