Jameis Winston Claps Back at David Carr Over Training Video Critique
By Jerry Trotta
After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed Tom Brady in free agency, the future of Jameis Winston became as opaque as ever. We're now into the second week of April, and the former No. 1 overall pick is still on the open market without a contract.
In an effort to inform teams that he's still putting in the work during quarantine, Winston tweeted out a rather puzzling workout video on Thursday that was created with the intent to showcase his ability to maneuver around pressure in the pocket.
The clip was predictably lambasted on Twitter, and former NFL vet David Carr did not hesitate to hop on that bandwagon.
Most would argue that Carr's reply was anything but constructive criticism. The laughing emoji articulates that this was a personal shot.
This didn't sit well with Winston, who clapped back at 2002's No. 1 overall pick with a clever video of a New Orleans Saints defender actually "flying" at his head.
There's no denying that Winston should think twice before posting another one of his unorthodox workout drills, but we have to hand the former Pro Bowler the W in this war of words with Carr.
Winston chose the high road, whereas Carr stooped to a level of petulance that is usually reserved for social media trolls. Constructive criticism is always warranted, especially with a player like Winston, but there's no doubting that Carr crossed a line here.
