Warriors Targeting Memphis' James Wiseman in 2020 NBA Draft is the Perfect Response to a Lost Season
By Sam Dunn
The Golden State Warriors are surely one of those NBA teams that won't be so incredibly busted up over the prospect of playing no more basketball in 2019-20 if such decision is truly in the cards. They suffered through a brutal bottoming-out following five straight trips to the NBA Finals, losing Klay Thompson to injury and Kevin Durant to the Nets only to see Steph Curry succumb to health issues of his own.
In so many ways, it's time for a clean slate and a fresh start, a process that begins in earnest with the 2020 NBA Draft (as soon as) this summer. And per insider Ric Bucher, Memphis Tigers center James Wiseman is at the top of general manager Bob Myers' wish list.
All told, there's not better antidote for a shambling wreck of a lost season than the super-athletic Wiseman, who is sure to be one of the first players off the board when picking time rolls around.
Curry will surely be back to full strength in due time, while Thompson still figures to be something close to his old self after rehabbing his Achilles injury for more than a year. The undersized Draymond Green isn't getting any younger, however, so adding a high-flying seven-footer like Wiseman will be a godsend.
He has a lot to offer defensively right out of the gate, and has a size-quickness combo to develop into an imposing offensive threat.
The only question is where the Dubs end up in the draft lottery -- because if they don't snag a pick in the top three or four, Wiseman may not be there for them at all.
