Jared Goff's Contract Just Completely Screwed the Cowboys' Talks With Dak Prescott

The Los Angeles Rams dropped a huge bombshell on Tuesday night that nobody saw coming. Jared Goff, their 2016 first overall pick, signed to four-year, $134 million contract extension, with an NFL-record $110 million guaranteed.

While that affects quarterbacks set to get paid in the near future, it impacts nobody more than Dak Prescott, who's set for a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

And owner Jerry Jones can't be too happy to see this latest news to drop.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Cowboys signed offensive lineman La'el Collins to a five-year extension, which freed up $5.7 million in cap space. That space, ideally, is meant for running back Ezekiel Elliott, who is reportedly "very close" to signing his extension.

However, with the Goff news, Prescott and his camp must be salivating at the amount of money they could command from Dallas.

Even after being labeled a system quarterback with a stud running back in Elliott at his disposal, Prescott is one of the most winningest players at his position. What helps his case further is that Jones is in love with him and brags about the former fourth-rounder every chance he gets.

Prior to the Goff news, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz set the market with a four-year, $128 million extension, netting him a $32 million annual salary. Many said Prescott could exceed that, especially with reports of him wanting over $30 million a year.

You have to think he's going to get his way after this.

That hurts the Cowboys and Jones, who continuously mentions the amount of "pie" that's left in Dallas. They thought their negotiations with Ezekiel Elliott were difficult? Wait until they enter the boardroom with Dak Prescott.
