Jason Garrett Never Learns From His Mistakes and Terrible Field Goal in 4th Cost Cowboys the Game
By Scott Rogust
The Dallas Cowboys walked into Sunday with a 6-4 record, but with plenty to prove against the New England Patriots. The Cowboys held their own against the AFC powerhouse in the nasty elements, but ultimately lost 13-9.
When looking for a catalyst for the L, you can't help but point the finger of blame towards Dallas head coach Jason Garrett, the man who has taken up a permanent residence on the hot seat.
Flash forward to the Cowboys down 13-6 to the Patriots in the fourth quarter. On 4th down and with the clock ticking, anybody with a brain would have gone for it to try and tie things up, especially when all a field goal does is...lower the one-score game's margin slightly while keeping it a one-score game.
But not the clapping head coach, who instead opted to go for a field goal and keep the one-score game right there, without any guarantee of getting the ball back.
Did Garrett forget who's standing on the opposite sideline? It's future Hall of Famer Bill Belichick, who's shown throughout his lengthy coaching career that he can kill the clock in the waning moments of regulation.
Not to mention this was the vaunted Patriots defense, who gave Garrett's offense fits throughout the game. What made him think the offense could work its way all the way downfield and into the end zone?
Spoiler alert: even though everything went Dallas' way and they miraculously got another shot, they couldn't move the ball past midfield. Who could have seen that coming?!
Simply put, Jason Garrett was coaching scared in New England, and it caused the team to drop to 6-5 on the season and helped the Philadelphia Eagles remain one game out of the NFC East lead.
You best believe Dallas Cowboys fans hope those Jason Garrett-New York Giants rumors become a reality in 2020. It's just more of the same, eternally.
