Jason Heyward Makes Multiple Generous Donations to Coronavirus Relief Efforts in Chicago
By Michael Luciano
The MLB is currently on ice due to the continuing spread of the coronavirus, but some of the game's most famous faces are pledging some of their riches to philanthropic means in order to combat this disease.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward has pledged to give away $200,000. Half of that donation will go to an organization that collects supplies and meals for affected families, while the other half will go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Across all sports, $100,000 seems to be going rate for donations from pro athletes, but Heyward decided to double up that amount.
This announcement comes after all 30 MLB teams announced that every team pledged $1 million to cover the salary of employees and workers that will not be able to work while the league is inactive.
If there is any silver lining to be found in this nightmare, it's that athletes all around the country are banding together and using their wealth for more altruistic means. It's through donations like this that we as a whole can overcome this virus.
