Jauan Jennings Called Out Tennessee More Than Jeremy Pruitt Did and That's Part of the Problem
The Volunteers were embarrassed last weekend when Georgia State traveled to Tennessee and beat the 24.5-point favorites, 38-30.
Unlike head coach Jeremy Pruitt, senior receiver Jauan Jennings came out and acknowledged the loss was unacceptable, showing some accountability for the Volunteers.
Pruitt's post-game press conference was littered with coach jargon, but no real blame for the team's poor performance. Jennings took it into his own hands to call things unacceptable, doing the coach's job for him.
This is the root of the problem for Tennessee: the coach is unwilling to condemn his team after a season-altering loss in Week 1. There needs to be accountability for something of this magnitude. I mean, the team PAID Georgia State $950K to play them Week 1, and they got beat. That's unacceptable.
Jennings took charge as a leader, and it helps considering he was one of the few bright spots for the Vols against Georgia State. The redshirt senior hauled in seven catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.
The only thing Tennessee can do now is put that performance behind them. There's no sense dwelling on it after today, but if it happens again, the coach needs to hold his players accountable.
