VIDEO: Utah's Javelin Guidry Runs Combine's 2nd-Fastest 40-Yard Dash and His Name is Freaking Javelin
By Scott Rogust
If you happened to watch any of this year's NFL Scouting Combine so far, you can see just how special the 2020 draft class is. Perhaps no drill has shown that more than the 40-yard dash; Clemson's Isaiah Simmons put up a ridiculous 40 time on Saturday. But on Sunday, the designated day for defensive backs, nobody crushed the test more than Utah's Javelin Guidry, who flew like a javelin through the air, posting a ridiculous 4.30-second time.
That's unbelievable. And if you thought it was impossible to replicate, Guidry says to hold his cleats. On his second try, the Utes cornerback tallied... 4.30 seconds! Again! It's not quite on the level of Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs' 4.27-second time -- the best mark at the Combine as of this writing -- but it's wildly close.
These times clocked on the field are unofficial, of course. When it was time for an official number to go into the books, he was bumped up to a sensational 4.29.
Given that NFL wide receivers just keep getting faster, teams will be looking for a corner with the wheels to follow them step-for-step. Guidry may be only 5-foot-9, but his speed is something that can't be ignored. Just like his namesake, Javelin can soar.
