Jay Glazer Becomes Latest NFL Insider to Predict Dak Prescott-Cowboys Deal by July 15
By Scott Rogust
This offseason, a multitude of NFL stars were designated with the franchise tag by their respective teams. But no tendered player has received more attention than Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who is looking to earn one of the biggest contracts in league history. However, both parties haven't made any (public) progress at the negotiating table.
But on Thursday, FOX Sports and The Athletic insider Jay Glazer instilled some confidence in Cowboys Nation by saying that the team and Prescott will reach an agreement on a new deal prior to the July 15 deadline to avoid a potential holdout.
“They won’t (let it get to that). Absolutely not. It’s not part of their plan,” Glazer wrote in his latest mailbag on The Athletic. “Dak Prescott will be a part of the Dallas Cowboys for a long, long time. They will get this worked out.”
What Glazer says makes absolute sense. Why would Jerry Jones and the 'Boys want to have a repeat of the Ezekiel Elliott holdout from last summer? That was a nightmarish distraction. Of course, Prescott won't have the same luxury as his running back, because once it officially becomes July 16, the signal caller won't be able to negotiate a new contract until the conclusion of the 2020 season.
While that's all well and good, the next question that remains is how lucrative Prescott's deal will be. Reports indicated that Prescott would prefer his next contract to be backloaded and to last for four years, as opposed to Dallas' desire for five years.
Despite that disagreement, Cowboys fans need not fret. A deal will likely be finalized before the start of training camp.
